What is corruption?

Corruption in easy words is dishonest behavior by especially powerful people. Basically it means that it is the misuse of public power for person gain.

There are three stages of corruption:

·       1. Petty Corruption.

·       2. Grand corruption.

·       3. Systematic corruption.

Petty Corruption:

Petty corruption is a corruption type on smaller scale. It usually takes place on small areas such as private or government sectors, some offices, police stations etc.

Grand Corruption:

Grand corruption occurs on high scale. These type of corruptions are usually done in dictatorship countries or illiberal countries.

Systematic Corruption:

Systematic corruption is a corruption which mainly happens due to the weakness of an organization.

What can cause corruption?

According to a survey conducted in the year 2017, some of the factors that can be the cause of corruption are as follow:

·       Greed of money

·       Low levels of democracy

·       Gender inequality

·       Political instability

·       Unemployment

·       Low economic free

Corruption can take place in any sector, doesn’t matter whether they are private or public sectors.

Let’s start with the public sector!
Public sector:

It includes government agencies such as tax collectors, police officers etc.

Military:

Military corruption can be done by a soldier or soldiers in the armed forces using their power for their personal gain.

Natural resources:

In the countries where there is less democracy, the presence of different resources such as gold, oil, diamond etc. can increase the prevalence of corruption. It can also include large levels of briberies. And also industrial level of corruptions.

Judicial:

Judicial corruption means corruption related to the judges. Through receiving bribes, judges can improperly sentence a criminal.

Political:

Political corruption refers to the misuse of public power. Or the resources by the elected government for their personal gain.

Police:

Police corruption refers to the corruption done by a police officer or police officers by not pursuing or particularly pursuing an investigation in exchange of bribes.

Corruption also includes some others. Corruption can lead so much problems in a country or a region which we can’t even think of, mainly can be done by a powerful person using his powers in a wrong way for his personal gain.
